Distribution Regaining Focus

Bruce Leto Boards have been placing more emphasis on distribution, including understanding the different distribution channels and the roles that intermediaries play. While always on the board's radar, distribution issues had taken a back seat in 2008 and 2009 when funds were experiencing tremendous outflows and boards were focusing more on these new market pressures. Also spurred by the Securities and Exchange Commission's recent refocus on 12b-1 fees, boards are now paying attention to the fund's marketing and distribution plan to see what the manager may have in mind to rebuild assets.
